Health Eating

Here at BMCKC, we acknowledge the importance of healthy eating behaviours and active play that contribute to good oral health and overall wellbeing.

All our meals and snacks are provided on site, by trained and accredited kitchen staff with appropriate food safety qualifications. All meals are made form the ground up, from fresh ingredients, and are nutritionally sound. Our six week rotating menu allows children to be exposed to an array of various multi-cultural dishes, and children are always encouraged to try new things.

We are an accredited ‘Kids – Go for your life’ program Centre. This is an award program, funded by the State Government of Victoria and developed by the Cancer Council Victoria and Diabetes Australia, whereby strict criteria must be met. This includes:
• Fresh drinking water available to all children at all times;
• Meals and snacks provided are nutritious and meet children’s daily and developmental requirements;
• Providing positive meal environments, which are planned to be relaxed, social and enjoyable learning experiences by allowing children to participate in self feeding as well as serving, encouraging children to try new foods regularly, and providing opportunities for carers to sit with children at meal times for role modelling, safety, learning and socialisation;
• Not using food as a reward, incentive or for comfort;
• Using daily structured and free active play as a significant component of the program plan;
• Screen time is limited in the service; and
• Providing age appropriate traffic safety education, including pedestrian and car safety, to both children and families.
